A self-guided tour of Newcastle’s inner city art galleries.  At a leisurely pace, the Artscape ride alone should only take 1 to 11/hours.  We recommend you allow at least half a day for cafe stops and gallery visits.

Tramway Track

8.5km each way , undulating, shared path with no road crossings, for novice and experienced cyclists.
Connection from Honeysuckle via the 10km City to Uni shared path plus 4km shared path and minor roads from Uni to Wallsend.
From Lake Macquarie – 5.3km with some heavy traffic for experiecnced cyclists only.

Two City Circuit

47km, easy to moderate hills, mainly off-road but with some difficult on-road sections, for experienced riders

A more challenging ride that includes some of the best cycling routes in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, including 35km of shared off-road paths through beautiful bushland, along the lake foreshore, and past fabulous cafes. Traffic on the roads between these paths can be busy so the circuit is suitable only for experienced, confident riders. Allow 2.5-3.5 hours plus breaks.

Bathers Way

10.5km each way from Honeysuckle, mainly off-road, some moderate hills, for cyclists with some experience and fitness. At weekends this route can be very busy with pedestrians.

A popular ride around Newcastle’s city beaches and baths, checking out the surf, parks and historic landmarks, hoping to spot whales from lookouts along the way.

 Fernleigh Track

16km each way (Adamstown / Belmont), undulating, shared path with controlled road crossings, for novice and experienced cyclists.  
6km from Honeysuckle to track start, flat, minor roads for experienced cyclists

One of the state’s best rail trails. An essential ride!

A popular shared path along the old rail track, through dense bushland and coastal scrub, past suburban gardens, through a brick-lined tunnel under the Pacific Highway and across a boardwalk over the coastal wetlands.

12km each way, flat, can stay off-road all the way,

A ferry to Stockton then a self-guided scenic ride along coast, wetlands and harbour foreshore. This ride is part of the NSW Coastal Cycleway Route.
